Scheduling is flexible. New members usually work with an experienced member
before working alone. Training and written instructions are also provided. Optional

and assisting with the Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas displays.
Acolytes:
Acolytes serve as altar assistants to the presiding clergy during
Sunday services at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. The rotation is generally one Sunday
per month. The minimum age is 8.
Buildings
and Grounds Committee:
is responsible for the up-keep and general maintenance of all
church buildings and grounds. Roles for volunteers range from planning to architectural
advice to construction and construction oversight to planting and weeding in
the garden.
Christian
Education:
Church school meets Sundays after the 9:00 a.m. service from
September through early June, usually with no class on holiday weekends. Teachers
co-teach (with at least one other teacher) classes of up to ten children. Occasional
weekends off can be arranged with substitute teachers. A curriculum is provided
as a guide, but lessons can be flexible according to the teachers' talents and
desires.
Concert
Committee:
Presents and/or sponsors occasional concerts, and works with the Director of
Music on various aspects of the annual Messiah sing and other concerts.
Choirs: see music
Food
Pantry:
Makes food available when needed to Brookline residents who have
been referred to the Brookline Food Pantry. Open 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on
Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm every week. We need
volunteers for several jobs: to be on hand during open hours to help service
clients; do occasional shopping when purchases are necessary; sort food after
large food drives and putting on shelves.
Hospitality
Committee:
The Hospitality Committee organizes Coffee Hours and cooks for
many special events, such as Homecoming, the Church picnic, the Passover Seder
and various receptions during the year. Activities include the shopping, preparing
and cooking, table setup and cleaning up.
Lay
Readers:
Lectors read the Scripture Lessons and Intercessory Prayer at
our worship services. Chalice Bearers administer the chalice during Holy Communion.
Minsitry
Outside the Parish Committee:
The M.O.P Committee has the responsibility of involving St. Paul's
in the community beyond our church. M.O.P. seeks and evaluates proposals from
religious, educational, health care, and other organizations and makes grants.
Recently MOP has organized a series of speakers, representing recipient organizations,
on Sunday mornings at church. MOP coordinates a fundraiser for Oxfam annually,
and invites occasional outside speakers.
Ushers:
Ushers welcome people to the 9:00 and 11:00 services, distribute
service leaflets, collect and present the offering, and guide the congregation
during Holy Communion.
Worship
Committee:
The Worship Committee provides education in liturgy and makes
suggestions on issues related to forms of worship, music, and participation
of the congregation in various aspects of worship. The committee works closely
with the clergy and music director.
