Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Burning of the Palms

Join us on Tuesday, February 21 at 6pm for our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.  If you're not heading to the Big Easy for Mardi Gras, come feast on pancakes, don mardi gras apparel and enjoy fellowship and revelry before Lent begins!  Ever wonder where the ashes for Ash Wednesday come from? We'll gather together and burn our palms from last year’s Palm Sunday after the Pancake Supper.  Please bring your palms from last year either on Sunday or Tuesday evening.  These burned palms, mixed with spiced oil, become the ashes for our Ash Wednesday service (see below for more details.) The Pancake Supper is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12, or $10 per family.  All proceeds will benefit the Honduras Mission Trip.

Lent Starts February 22 with Ash Wednesday

There will be Ash Wednesday Liturgies at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM with Imposition of Ashes at both services and Holy Eucharist at the evening service. Please join us as we start this reflective season together.

The Nicene Creed – Do I have to Cross My Fingers?

Our Lenten Adult Education Series focuses on the Nicene Creed. Join us at 9:00 AM in the Lichtenberger Room each Sunday in Lent to explore the

Nicene Creed. We say it together each week, but do we know what it means, and what it doesn’t mean? We’ll look at the Creed from historical and theological lenses in an attempt to discover what it might mean for us today.

2012 LENTEN HOUSE SCHEDULE

March 9th  - Liz and Tina DeSelm, Melrose
March 16th - Gordon and Christine Schultz, Jamaica Plain
March 23rd - Beverly and Steve Este-Smargiassi, Jamaica Plain
March 30th - Jeff Mello and Paul Daigneault, The Rectory
Parents are welcome to  bring children and a separate play area will be provided for the children during the book discussion.  Please call Lucy in the Church Office [617-566-4953 ]or email Edward Jacobson ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Lenten Ministry Trainings

Do you participate in the service on Sunday mornings? Would you like to? We will be using Lent as a time to gather several of the ministries who serve on Sunday mornings. These half-hour sessions (11:30-12:00 sharp!) will be refreshers for those who have served previously, and trainings for anyone wishing to join a particular ministry. Brief guidelines will be distributed at the meetings and everyone will have a chance to ask questions and sign up. We ask that everyone who is interested in continuing to serve in a particular role join us, so we can all be on the same page. The schedule of trainings will be as follows:

February 26 – Chalice Bearers; March 4 – Prayers of the People; March 11 – Readers; March 18 – Ushers. Please make every effort to attend. If you are unable to come to a training, please let the office know of your desire to continue serving/join a ministry and a make-up session will be arranged. This is a great opportunity to try a new ministry! We look forward to seeing you.

Third Sundays Potluck on hiatus….
Due to the many activities during the Lenten and Easter seasons with opportunities for fellowship, there will be no 3rd Sundays potlucks in February or March.  We're hoping to resume monthly potlucks after Easter.  If you are interested in helping to coordinate the potlucks, please let Jeff know.

Parish Spring Work Day is Saturday, March 24

Come help do spring clean up inside and outside the church. A group of parishioners will be sprucing up our yard and buildings – raking, window washing, organizing and whatever else needs it. Come with a rake, a bucket, or just willing hands. Contact Stephen Estes-Smargiassi (617-522-0572) or just show up 9-1 on March 24.
