Adult Education in January
In honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday in January, we will be watching a film called "13th" and having a discussion about the film following church on MLK Sunday. The film is 2 hours, so we will split it into thirds to prepare for our discussion. The arc of January Adult Education is as follows:

Sunday, January 1: no adult education
Sunday, January 8 at 9am: Watch part one, brief discussion
Sunday, January 15 at 9am: watch part two, brief discussion
after church, Sunday, January 15 at 11:30pm: watch part three, followed by a potluck and hour of facilitated discussion (there will be a children's movie and pizza for our younger members)
Sunday, January 22 at 9am: Eliza will give a presentation about her experience at Standing Rock
Sunday, January 31 at 9am: to be decided

"13th" is a film about the race and the prison system in the US. For those who are not available at the 9am hour, the film is available on Netflix. If you would like to host a screening at your home at another time, please email Eliza at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or put it in the announcements! Our Anti-Racism Team is working on getting a training together for February, so this is a theme we are hoping to continue exploring as the year goes by. We give special thanks to Linda Sanches who suggested this film and is driving the re-boot!  For those who cannot make the adult education screenings of "13th," you can watch the entire film at 4 pm on Saturday, January 7 at the Newton home of Linda Sanches. Please give her a heads up by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. "13th" is a film about race and the prison system in the US, and has been on many compilations of the "best movies of 2016."   Linda is on the 57/501/502  T bus lines, 3 minutes from exit 17 on the Pike, and can pick you up from the Newton Centre stop on Green line (2 miles).

Please join us on Thursday, January 26 in the Lichtenberger Room at St. Paul's for our first Spiritual Book Group meeting! We will be discussing Barbara Brown Taylor's book, "Altar in the World," which some of you may remember was the theme for our All Parish Retreat!

Copies of the book are available at the Brookline Booksmith for $14.99. Just ask the person at the register for "St. Paul's book group." (They promised a discount, but I don't know for how much!) At our All Parish Retreat, Leah Rugen preached on the theme of "Altar in the World," and you can click here to see her reflection.
